Case NEET-UG 2024: On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made additional arrests in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak investigation. Ranjit Kumar from Gaya and Sunny Kumar from Nalanda, a NEET-UG candidate, were taken into custody by the investigating agency. The father of candidate Sunny Kumar is Rajnit Kumar. As of Tuesday, officials said, the agency had made 11 arrests in all.

According to the officials, the CBI has so far detained eight people in connection with the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak case, one person each in relation to alleged manipulation in Latur and Godhra, Gujarat, and one person from Dehradun in connection with a wider plot.
In a related case, the agency had already detained the vice principal and principle of the Oasis school in Hazaribagh as well as two individuals who were allegedly responsible for providing NEET applicants with a safe haven where the Bihar Police had found burned question papers.

The CBI, which is probing the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam, has registered six FIRs. The FIR from Bihar pertains to leakage of paper while the remaining from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra are linked to impersonation of candidates and cheating.
The agency’s own FIR on a reference from the Union Education Ministry pertains to a “comprehensive investigation” into the alleged irregularities in the examination.
The Supreme Court requested a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on July 10 regarding the NEET UG exam, and on Monday it directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) and Centre to file their affidavits with all the data.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been asked to inform the Supreme Court about the efforts taken to identify the applicants who profited from the paper leak. The Supreme Court stated on Monday that there is no doubt that the NEET-UG held on May 5 was compromised by a question paper leak.
The case will be heard next on July 11.
NEET-UG is conducted by the NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions. This year, the exam was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 abroad. More than 23 lakh candidates had appeared for the test.
