The University Grants Commission (UGC) heard from the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 19, 2024, about the paper leak in the test. Because of this, the evaluation was canceled.

Officials from the government say they will protect the students' rights and make sure the exams are fair. Following the cancellation of the exam, the government has made it clear that anyone or any group found to be involved in this matter will face harsh punishment.

On June 18, the UGC NET test for the June session was given in OMR (pencil-and-paper) format. On this occasion, the UGC NET exam for 83 courses was given in two shifts on the original day. The first shift went from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the second shift went from 3 pm to 6 pm.
