After winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, Rahul Dravid, the former head coach of India, was finally thanked by Rohit Sharma in an emotional letter.
Following their victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, players such as Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the shortest format of cricket. Along with the three, the world title his team won was the dream conclusion to Indian head coach Rahul Dravid’s stint, something he was unable to do during his playing career.
The man who led the Indian team to glory, Rohit Sharma after all the celebrations took some time to pen a heartfelt note on his official Instagram handle where he hailed the efforts of Dravid who despite his immense stature in Indian cricket always was an approachable figure for the players.
“You are an absolute stalwart of this game but left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time,” wrote the Indian captain.
Rohit also shared a funny snippet in his note where his wife always referred to Dravid as his work-wife but the captain maintains his pride in the relationship he had with the legend.
He added, “I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too.”
Despite Dravid’s immense playing career for the country, an ICC trophy was something that eluded him throughout his playing career. While Sachin Tendulkar was able to hold on till the 2011 ODI World Cup, many legendary players like Dravid were unable to get the coveted World Cup title. But Rohit remains glad that he was able to bring that to his arsenal as India took home the 2024 T20 World Cup title.
