‘Kejriwal eating mangoes to raise sugar levels to get bail,’ ED tells court; diet prescribed by a doctor, says CM’s lawyer.

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP, has had his judicial detention extended until April 23 in connection with the money-laundering case about the repealed Delhi tax policy.

The Enforcement Directorate said in front of a Delhi court on Thursday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is being held in Tihar jail for his involvement in the alleged excise policy case, was purposefully consuming mangoes and other foods to increase his blood sugar levels and establish grounds for parole.

CM Kejriwal filed an appeal with the Court of Special Judge Kaveri Baweja asking for three weekly online doctor consultations and routine medical check-ups to monitor his blood sugar levels.

Special lawyer Zoheb Hossain stated, “A diabetic person is eating mangoes and sugars intentionally to raise his sugar levels,” adding that Kejriwal was merely fabricating a medical justification for his bail.

Representing CM Kejriwal, attorney Vivek Jain contended that the diet he was following was recommended by his physician.

“The doctor has advised this diet. Is the ED in charge of the doctor? questioned Jain while asserting that the ED was merely fabricating claims to garner media attention.

Sitharaman declares the Congress’s Rs. 1 lakh commitment to families in poverty “irresponsible” and questions the economic worth of such promises.

The court listed the matter for 2 pm on Friday and further directed Tihar Jail authorities to submit a medical status report of Kejriwal before the court.

A Delhi court on Monday extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody till April 23 in the money-laundering case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. He was sent to Tihar Jail on April 1, hours after the court of Special Judge Kaveri Baweja sent him to judicial custody till April 15.

In its earlier remand application, the ED alleged that kickbacks received after changes in the Delhi excise policy had been used to fund the AAP’s campaign for the Goa Assembly elections. The agency called Kejriwal the “kingpin and key conspirator” of the alleged scam.
