At Wankhede on Friday, the Mumbai Indians’ final league game against the Lucknow Super Giants ended without them reaching their bowling quota. They were consequently charged with sluggish over-rate three times during the season. For the first time, only Captain Pandya received a fine of Rs 12 lakh in Indian currency for his gradual overrate. For the second time, Captain Hardik was fined Rs 24 lakh for the same offense. The remaining members of the team, including the impact players, also had to pay a fine of either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of the match fee, whichever was lower.
Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya fined INR 30 lakh for third slow over-rate of the season. He was also sent off for one match. Those who played for Mumbai on Friday were each fined 50 per cent of their match fee or Rs 12 lakh, whichever is less.
Notably, Mumbai Indians have already completed their IPL 2024 campaign. They did not qualify for the playoffs. Therefore, Pandya will not have to fall under the ban in the current season. But Hardik is likely to miss Mumbai’s first match next season.
After Delhi’s Rishabh Pant, Mumbai’s Hardik Pandya is the second cricketer and captain to be banned for a match this year for slow over-rate. Mumbai Indians have lost 10 out of 14 league matches this year. They won a total of 4 matches. Hardik Pandya finished the tournament at number 10 at the bottom of the league table with 8 points. In other words, Hardik had to face the ultimate downfall in his first season as the captain of Mumbai Indians.
