This was their second selfie after the one that Meloni shared on her official X handle from the COP28 Summit in 2023, with the hashtag Melodi.

The camaraderie between the two prime ministers was caught on camera. When PM Modi was received by Meloni, both leaders greeted each other with namaste gestures. While exchanging pleasantries, both leaders smiled following a brief conversation.

This was PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation in the G7 summit, with India having attended the last ten summits. Italy, as the chair of the G7, hosted the gathering of the bloc of seven major economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.

On Friday, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Meloni and discussed defense and security cooperation between the two nations.

“The two sides discussed bilateral defence and security cooperation and hoped for further enhancing the defence-industrial collaboration. They welcomed the forthcoming visit of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci to India later this year,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement.
