Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Saudi Pro League Record

Saudi Pro League: Ronaldo scored a brace, bringing his season total to 35 goals and breaking Abderrazak Hamdallah’s record of 34 in 2019.

Even at the age of 39, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to set records with his remarkable goal-scoring ability. The Portuguese star set a Saudi Pro League record for the most goals scored in a single season. He scored twice in Al-Nassr’s final league stage match of the season, a 4-2 victory over Al-Ittihad in Riyadh. Ronaldo’s two goals increased his tally to 35 in a season, breaking the record set by Abderrazak Hamdallah of Al Nassr, who scored 34 in 2019.

Ronaldo looked crisp on the pitch on Monday from the start, with only two of his chances in front of goal deemed off-side in the first half. However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored Al-Nassr’s opening goal in the final seconds of the first half.

He chested down Mohammed Al-Fatil’s long ball before scoring with a low shot from the left side of the box. Meanwhile, with 21 minutes remaining in the second half, he connected with a header from a Marcelo Brozovic corner kick. He was taken off the pitch five minutes later, to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

Ronaldo also posted on social media on breaking the Saudi Pro League record.

“I don’t follow the records, the records follow me,” Ronaldo captioned the post.

In addition, the Portuguese superstar became the first footballer to score the most goals in four separate leagues. Ronaldo earned three Spanish Golden Boots, one Premier League Golden Boot, and the same in Serie A while playing for Juventus.

Ronaldo enjoyed a great season in Saudi Arabia, scoring four hat-tricks and picking up a red card. In a weird incident, the 39-year-old was punished for making obscene gestures towards Al-Shabab fans who were screaming the name of Lionel Messi, Ronaldo’s long-time adversary who now plays for Inter Miami in the MLS.

Al-Nassr finished second in the league, 14 points behind local rival Al-Hilal, who won the championship more than two weeks ago and closed the 34-game season unblemished on Monday.
