There are rumors that Bangladesh has banned its people from using popular social media apps like WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. This puts restrictions on the nation’s ability to use these popular apps. August 2, Friday, was the announcement of the move.

The Times of India claims that Global Eyes News broke the story of the restriction via its official X account first, indicating that, as of Friday, users in Bangladesh would have restricted access to the aforementioned social media sites.

The Bangladeshi government’s decision was made in response to Turkey’s announcement earlier that day of a similar ban on Instagram.

Bangladesh has prohibited meta platforms on previous occasions. The most recent ban comes after Facebook and Instagram, two of Meta’s platforms, were suspended in July. The countrywide unrest over quota revisions that was observed earlier in the day prompted the early stoppage.
